What fundamental changes are needed in the framework conditions of science management?

Compared to established professional fields, science management urgently needs structural development, because it still lacks clearly defined career paths, uniform standards, and sufficient visibility. To effectively fulfil its central role at the interface between research, organisation, and society, three key components in particular would need to be fundamentally transformed.
