Can a university still afford to have its own in-house publisher?

Sabrina Diab-Helmer, publishing director of Bielefeld University Press, explores this question in the June issue of DUZ's Wissenschaft & Management.

Given the current budget situation at many universities, the question of how worthwhile an in-house publisher really is has become increasingly pressing. Diab-Helmer counters this by asking: can a university afford not to build its own publishing infrastructure? In her opinion, universities without an in-house publisher will pay a high price in the long run.
